W SERIES SATELLITES
Following on from the success of the EUTELSAT II series, the W satellites are a new generation of telecommunications, television and multimedia satellites that extend the range of services provided from orbital positions other than the HOT BIRDT position at 13 degrees East. The W series provides flexible coverage and bandwidth options for consumer and business services in Europe, Asia and Africa extending well into the 21st century. They provide increased power and broader coverage with respect to the previous satellite generation, with the added flexibility of steerable beams.
Services provided by the W satellites include Internet, public telephony, business networks, satellite news gathering, television and radio programme broadcasting and distribution.
The W satellites serve a wide range of business users, including telecommunication companies, radio and television broadcasters international news agencies, manufacturing industry and multimedia service providers.
Major users include the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the world largest professional association of national broadcasters. The W series is the backbone of the Eurovision and Euroradio networks for exchanging television and radio programmes internationally. Thanks to the flexible communication capabilities of the W satellites, we are all able to enjoy international sports coverage and other live events. News agencies such as Reuters, AFP and DPA also transfer their news and financial information daily via the W satellites, helping to increase our awareness of events as they happen around the globe.
