Our SKYPLEX multiplexing facility enables broadcasters to uplink services
directly, cutting out the need for terrestrial contribution links to
reach an on-ground multiplex.
Regional, local and thematic broadcasters can benefit from
easy and direct satellite access into millions of homes.
Independence: SKYPLEX can receive video, audio and data uplink
signals from several different geographic locations and multiplex them
into a single DVB downlink signal.
Wide audience access: SKYPLEX is located on our HOT BIRD™
6 satellite positioned at 13 degrees East, and our W3A satellite at
7 degrees East, providing broadcasters with instant access to a very
large installed base of DVB receivers.
Reduced investment: SKYPLEX reduces the uplink antenna size
to 1.2 and 1.8 meters, substantially reducing the broadcaster's investment
in uplinking. With a direct link to satellite, investment in set-up
time, terrestrial feeder links and centralised uplink stations drops
significantly.
Bridging the worlds of audio, video and data communication: SKYPLEX is well suited to a wide range of different applications. For
DVB TV and radio, SKYPLEX can be used for single programme uplinking,
outside broadcast and business communication. It also offers an ideal
architecture for the development of multimedia networks, VSAT applications,
and Internet routing.
How does SKYPLEX work?
Using a PC-based Skyplex multiplex adapter
and an adapted DVB modulator combined with a small dish and medium power
amplifier, a broadcaster can send a signal from anywhere in the coverage
zone up to the Skyplex unit.
