USING AN EDP

The operator sends the signal to a central Eutelsat Digital Platform and leases a part of the bitrate within a digital multiplex. Transmission to the EDP can be via a contribution link, satellite "hop", or terrestrial lines if the signal originates near an operating EDP. The signal is multiplexed and transmitted via the satellite for broadcasting.

BROADCAST SERVICES :: EUTELSAT DIGITAL PLATFORMS

For cost-effective access to satellite networks and turnkey services, Eutelsat Digital Platforms (EDP) are the answer for small broadcasters and multimedia content providers. We have joined with operators of on-ground multiplex facilities to enable the lease of individual satellite carriers from various multiplexes throughout Europe.

With Eutelsat's Digital Platforms, broadcasters no longer have to invest in expensive multiplexing facilities and space segment.

EDPs offer cost-effective satellite hops, or contribution services and provide comprehensive digital TV, radio and multimedia applications. As a result the countries covered by our satellites have access to the most economical distribution systems for TV and multimedia.

EDPs offer full turnkey services including:
:: turnaround
:: tape playout
:: scrambling/encryption
:: monitoring and control

Other services include:
:: digital radio (both public and business)
:: data
:: multimedia applications using push technologies
:: high-speed Internet

The digital platforms also have flexible bitrate options handling the lower end bitrates of transmissions e.g.
:: audio
:: cartoons
:: teleshopping
:: conferences

and the higher rates of action-filled programmes e.g.
:: sports coverage
